CAPS United president Farai Jere says he will not increase the winning bonus for his team ahead of their showdown against leaders MWOS at Ngoni tomorrow because the newboys are a ‘SMALL TEAM.’
Jere will miss the match as he is away in Europe on parliamentary business but said he will be closely following the developments at Ngoni.
MWOS are unbeaten this season in the league but Jere said he only gives his players special incentives when they are playing against Dynamos and Highlanders.
He addressed his men at their training ground yesterday where he told them that CAPS United was a bigger brand than the Punters.
“The fact that MWOS are the team-of-the-moment doesn’t warrant them to be a big team and us, as CAPS United, we appreciate that they are playing well but we are not going to increase our winning bonuses.
“The winning bonuses will remain at US$500.
“We only increase our winning bonuses when we are playing either Dynamos or Highlanders.
“This season we have only lost two matches against Highlanders and TelOne away from home.”
It has taken four seasons for MWOS midfielder Tinotenda Mutyambizi to prove that CAPS United were wrong to let him go because of his height.
The Punters will host Makepekepe, who have found their winning touch under coach Ian Bakala, tomorrow at Ngoni.
Mutyambizi was recommended by former CAPS United coach Darlington Dodo, four seasons ago, after an impressive trial, together with his friend Tanaka Shandirwa.
However, they were not signed.
Shandirwa penned a two-year deal earlier this season after proving his worth at Yadah and Dynamos.
Mutyambizi had average stints with Yadah, Triangle and Harare City.
An explosive midfield battle is expected between Mutyambizi and Shandirwa.
The duo grew up together in the poorest section of Highfield, called PWD, which was meant for immigrants.
They were hardened by tough conditions and that is probably where their fighting spirit emanates.
Mutyambizi has been at the heart of MWOS’ midfield, where he has formed a brutal partnership with Mathew Murambiwa and Malvin Mudzuka.
CAPS United fans are excited with the return of Shandirwa from suspension, who has been connecting the dots in the centre of the park with Kundai Benyu.
The hosts are leading the championship race with 31 points after 15 matches.
Makepekepe are going into this match with a spring in their step after back-to-back wins.
“It’s sad to be on the sidelines when your team is playing but I think it also helped me gain more energy ahead of this fixture,” said Shandirwa.
“It feels good to be on the same field with Mutyambizi, it’s crazy because at one time we really wanted to play together for this team but God had other plans.
“I’m looking forward to a good game and CAPS United fans should come in numbers because we are targeting a positive result.”
