CAPS UNITED coach Llyod Chitembwe gave a dour post-match interview after he watched his side surrender a goal advantage to lose to Premiership newsboys Arenel yesterday.
Perhaps he had every reason to be grumpy as this was his team’s fifth outing in a row without victory.
They have lost three and drawn two of their last five matches.
In fact, the defeat was their ninth of the season.
The visitors had gone in front through William Manondo in the 39th minute with a well-taken volley from inside the box.
CAPS United’s joy was shortlived as the hosts won a penalty a minute later, which was converted by Brian Jaravaza.
Leading to the penalty, CAPS United goalkeeper Tonderai Mateyaunga brought down a charging Lucky Nyathi in the box.
Three minutes into the second half, Nyathi tapped home the second for Arenel, off a Timothy January pass.
Chitembwe thought it was a game they should have won.
“We are disappointed. Naturally it is disappointing to lose a match, more so, a match that you are expected to win, due respect to Arenel, but at the end of the day, we are expected to win and we should have done just that,” he said.
“Sometimes it’s very difficult when you lose matches and what it does is that it erodes confidence levels and that is the case with us. It is very important to make sure we try and correct as soon as possible. At the end of the day, we have to make sure we turn things around.”
Arenel coach Philani “Beefy” Ncube was elated with the victory, as he tries to take Arenel out of relegation danger.
“It’s not easy. One thing for sure, you have to appreciate the man who started the project. Unfortunately, it was something beyond our control. But well, we have to take it as a game as it comes,” said Ncube.
