Armed robbers raid garage, shoot guard for US$670

IN a terrifying incident, two balaclava-clad armed robbers raided a service station and ordered fuel attendants to lie on the ground before they allegedly shot a security guard in the stomach and got away with cellphones and US$670.

Armed with an AK-47 rifle, the robbers raided a service station located at Kelvin West along Nketa Drive, in Bulawayo.

A source close to the investigation revealed that the attack occurred shortly after 9:45pm. The robbers pointed the gun at the fuel attendants and the security guard, ordering them to lie on the ground.

“When they lay on the ground, at that moment, the robbers ordered them to surrender their cellphones and they complied. The security guard tried to run away, and they shot him in the stomach,” said the source.

The source added, “The security guard fell to the ground and bled profusely. They took US$670 and their cellphones.”

The incident was reported to the police, who have launched an investigation.

In a related incident, a balaclava-clad robber armed with a gun allegedly fired shots into the air before charging at a sales assistant at a drinking spot in Nkulumane.

“When the sales assistant was about to hand cash to her superior, she heard a gunshot and suddenly a man wearing a balaclava emerged from behind a precast wall, clutching a gun and demanding money. She surrendered US$471 and R200 and then he fled,” said a source close to the investigation.

The matter was reported to the police.
