THE annual Bilateral Games between Bulawayo-based Zimbabwe National Army’s 1 Infantry Brigade and Francistown domiciled Botswana Defence Forces’ 2 Brigade Group are set to be held on a bigger scale.
Speaking on the sidelines of the 2016 games held at White City Stadium yesterday, Two Brigade Group Commander Brigadier-General Joseph Seelo said they felt it was time to make them bigger instead of continually involving the regional divisions of the two country’s armies. The two countries alternate in hosting the games. “We have been holding the games between the two groups for a long time now and next year we are going national and it would be held in Gaborone although dates are yet to be set,” he said.
Commander 1 Infantry Brigade Brigadier-General Augustine Chipwere said the games have played a crucial role in bonding the two divisions, enabling them to interact at a personal level.
Zimbabwe once again dominated the endurance race with the 1 Infantry Brigade team winning in one hour 10 minutes while they lost 2-1 in the football match between officers and the Botswana side also won netball and volleyball matches, 49 -30 and 3-0 respectively. The non-commissioned officers’ football match ended in a one-all draw.
