ARMY officers should use knowledge gained during training as a guide in the discharge of their duties, Colonel Luckmore Mukurazhizha has said.
Speaking at a graduation ceremony for the General Squad Drill and Small Arms Course at Merchandised Brigade, Inkomo Barracks recently Col Mukurazhizha said discipline is the cornerstone of any professional army.
“I am glad to note that civil military relations were also incorporated in your syllabus.
“A sound appreciation of the history of Zimbabwe and contemporary issues is critical hence I urge you to use the knowledge you gained to guide you in the loyal and patriotic discharge of your duties,” he said.
“The course is commended for exhibiting high standards of discipline as there were no major cases of indiscipline.
“Let me hasten to say that discipline is the cornerstone of any professional army, hence this organisation shall not in any way compromise on indiscipline.”
Zvimba District Council chief executive officer Mr Peter Hlohla applauded the army for the work it has done in the community.
“I would like to thank the army because they have done a lot for the development of our community and the country at large. This shows that they remain patriotic to the nation because they work towards development,” he said.
“The discipline that they have shows that they have been trained well and I would like to congratulate those who have just graduated and encourage them to remain disciplined to promote peace and tranquillity in the country.”
Zanu-PF Mashonaland West Women’s League secretary for administration Cde Maggie Chidarikire said she was thrilled to see female graduates during the pass out parade.
“It gives me great pleasure to realise that the best student is female and also to see that a lot of women have graduated with different courses today. I would like to say this is what President Mugabe has always wanted, to have women empowered, because when you empower a woman you have empowered the whole nation.
“As secretary for administration in the Women’s League, my mandate is for women. My thrust is women; it gives me great pleasure to see female candidates graduating,” she said.
Memory Mabhurasi (25) — the best student during the course — could not hide her joy.
“I became number one out of 99 students because I’m determined to know everything that I would have been taught and also I have a passion to become like my instructors or even better.
“I hate failure, and also I like competition hence this is my third time being the best student in different courses,” she said.
“My advice to all the other women is that they must not look down upon themselves because they can do it.
