The MDC-T is conducting investigations against its councillors and has previously fired its councillors but has failed to get Government support.
Local Government, Rural and Urban Development Minister Ignatius Chombo said the MDC-T, which has the majority of urban councils, had agreed to co-operate with his ministry to ensure that its findings are authenticated by Government.

“It is essential that they report to the ministry so that appropriate action is taken,” he said.
“I am glad that the MDC-T has agreed with me that some of their councillors are corrupt.”
Minister Chombo said the corrupt councillors were not interested in serving the public. He said the ministry will continue to fight for the interests of residents. Minister

Chombo said Mutare mayor Brian James remains suspended despite him challenging the suspension at the High Court. Councillor James refused to attend a disciplinary hearing on charges of misconduct levelled against him.

Instead of attending the hearing, Clr James filed the urgent application to stop the proceedings until his earlier application had been heard. Minister Chombo said he remains on suspension until the first matter is finalised.
