Arteta plays down Gabriel injury scare

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta played down an injury scare to Gabriel after he had to be replaced by Cristhian Mosquera in the 2-0 win over Olympiakos.

The centre-back was pictured with his head in his hands as he came off the pitch.

Gabriel was able to take a seat on the bench rather than go down the tunnel and Arteta was optimistic about his fitness in his press conference.

“I think he’s going to be OK,” said the Arsenal manager.

“I think it was a kick, in the first half, and it was a bit uncomfortable. He could carry on but we decided not to take any risks because he’s played a lot of games.

“He’s coming back from a long-term injury and we need to look after him.”

Arsenal take on West Ham on Saturday in their final game before the international break, kicking off at 3pm.

A win would take the Gunners to the top of the Premier League for a few hours at least.
