Artisanal miner jailed for biting off girlfriend’s nose

A hot-tempered artisanal miner from Colleen Bawn will spend the next 10 months behind bars after he turned savage and bit off part of his girlfriend’s nose as he raged over a phone call.

The 48-year-old man snapped after his 45-year-old girlfriend, a vendor, received a call from another man while they were at the Vhovha mining area on July 2, 2025.

After the call, she deleted the call log, which was enough to send the man into a fit of rage.

According to the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ), the miner struck his lover with a stick on the mouth and at the back of her head.

He then sank his teeth into her nose, tearing off a chunk in a horrifying attack that left her bloodied and traumatised.

The Gwanda Magistrates’ Court sentenced him to 18 months in jail, with eight months suspended on condition of good behaviour.

Monster rapist-killer gets three life sentences

A monster rapist and killer, Daniel Chauke (63), of Mukondomi village under Chief Ngorima, was last week sentenced to three life terms by Mutare High Court judge Justice Isaac Muzenda.

Chauke was convicted after a full trial for brutally raping and killing three defenceless women in Chimanimani and Chipinge, including one who was five months pregnant.

Chauke’s reign of terror began in 2023, but he evaded arrest until May 2024, when he was taken into custody for stock theft.

In a shocking twist, Chauke voluntarily confessed to the heinous crimes, which the police had been struggling to solve.

His confession and subsequent conviction finally brought closure to families of the victims and ensured that justice was served.

Prosecutor Mr Malvern Musarurwa revealed Chauke’s heinous acts to the court.

He narrated how the convict ambushed the now-late Hauneni Manaka Masimandoyo (30) in the fields, strangled her to death before violating her lifeless body.

“Masimandoyo was a female adult aged 30 years. Between April 24 and 30, 2024, at Taderera village, Chauke strangled Masimandoyo, who was five months pregnant, causing her death.

“Chauke then raped Masimandoyo’s lifeless body, mutilated her privates with a machete and left them hanging loosely. He took the deceased’s purple panties and fled from the scene.

“On April 30, 2024, Clifford Gonzo, a local villager, discovered Masimandoyo’s body in a swampy area.

“The body was identified by Chipo Madhuku, the deceased’s sister, who recognised the clothes she was wearing, including a red blouse and a pink skirt pulled above the abdomen.

“She had no panties. The deceased’s body was lying on the ground facing upwards, with both arms and legs stretched. The deceased’s body was in a decomposing state. Her face had already lost shape,” Musarurwa told the court.

“When he was arrested, Chauke was in possession of the deceased’s purple panties, which were identified by Masimandoyo’s husband, who had bought them for her. He was also found in possession of the machete used in mutilating Masimandoyo’s privates.”

The prosecutor said Chauke also raped and killed Ruth Sithole, of Chipinge, whom he approached while she was working in her field early in the morning.

Chauke asked for a job and later proposed love to her, both of which were turned down.

He went on to rape Sithole before killing her.

“On October 21, 2023, around 5am, the deceased left her house, proceeding to her field in Chikwanda village, under Chief Mutema in Chipinge.

“As she was working in her field, the accused approached her, asking for a piece job in the field and she refused.

“The accused proposed love to her, and she turned him down.

“ This did not go down well with Chauke, who grabbed Sithole by the neck. Sithole was dragged for about 40 metres from the field, where Chauke raped her.

“After the rape, Chauke strangled Sithole to death. Chauke struck Sithole’s barking dog on its hind legs and went away.

“On October 22, 2023, a male juvenile and his two friends were at the field as they wanted to clear it.

“The juvenile’s dog started barking at a nearby bush. He proceeded to investigate and discovered the body of a woman lying in the bush.

“He called out trying to greet her, but she did not respond. He moved closer and noticed that there were some flies on the mouth and eyes. He also observed a dog lying next to the body. The deceased’s children were informed and they positively identified the body as that of their mother,” said the prosecutor.

Musarurwa added that Chauke was arrested for stock theft on May 27, 2024.

During interrogations at the Chipinge Urban Police Station, he admitted to killing the deceased persons.

Lupane man jailed for fighting cops

A 36-year-old Lupane man is behind bars after his attempt to play “hero” by obstructing the police from arresting a suspect led to his own incarceration.

Mlindeli Ndlovu (36), from Mtshekwa village, found himself in trouble on July 25 when officers moved in to apprehend assault suspect Moffat Ndlovu.

As officers attempted to cuff Ndlovu, Mlindeli dramatically intervened, pulling officers mid-arrest and even grabbing one from behind, tearing his shirt in the scuffle.

The law, however, does not take kindly to such interference.

Both men were eventually subdued and subsequently brought before the court.

According to the NPAZ, Mlindeli Ndlovu was sentenced to an 18-month prison term.

Fortunately for him, 15 months were suspended on condition of good behaviour, meaning he will serve three months in jail for obstructing justice.

The NPAZ emphasised the importance of respecting law enforcement, stating that blocking an arrest puts public safety at risk. — Bulawayo Bureau

Chipinge monster jailed for 75 years

Chipinge’s reign of terror is over!

Notorious pervert John Foroma (38) has been slapped with a whopping 75-year jail term by the Chipinge Magistrates’ Court after admitting to a heinous crime spree that shocked the nation.

Foroma pleaded guilty to five counts of rape, two counts of aggravated indecent assault and a robbery charge.

His reign of terror began on May 3, 2025, in the Chief Ngungunyana area.

The court heard how this fiend snuck into a home where a 13-year-old girl and her younger siblings were sleeping.

Wielding a knife, he brutally raped the teenager three times before sexually assaulting her nine- and 11-year-old sisters.

His depravity knew no bounds, the court heard.

In a separate incident, Foroma violently attacked a 63-year-old woman, stealing her Hisense cellphone.

The cunning criminal later sold the phone, but the law was hot on his heels.

Police tracked the stolen device, leading to Foroma’s arrest on June 15.

Justice was swift and severe.

Foroma received a hefty 15 years for each of the five rape and indecent assault counts, plus an additional five years for robbery.
