A MASSIVE Uhuru Gala to mark the country’s 36th Independence Anniversary has been lined up for Mutare Showgrounds on Sunday, with more than 25 local artistes expected to perform.
The Independence Gala will see artistes performing different genres ranging from traditional dances to Chimurenga music.
The gala scheduled to start at 4pm will commence with an Independence speech by Minister of State for Manicaland Provincial Affairs, Mandi Chimene who will be accompanied by a Mozambican delegation.
Artistes expected to perform include Brian Samaita, veteran lyricist, Hosiah Chipanga, urban groover, Juicer Mpostori, Dendera kingpin, Lameck Mutero, Simba Muchita, Nice to Nice, Mark Sounds, Tonderai Madziwana, Bembera Arts Ensemble, Kingstars Orchestra, Sarah Dee, Powered to worship, Reflection Dance crew among others.
Dancehall genre will be represented by Eager B, Preen King and Badness.
A choral group that consists of war veterans, Tadzokwa Choir is also expected to wow fans with their soulful tracks.
“Preparations are in course and we are happy with the progress so far. We will have our last meeting on Friday (today) to finalise on a few issues left. Local artistes will take turns to entertain hundreds of people expected to throng the showgrounds as people will be celebrating 36 years of self rule,” he said.
Admission is free. Artistes interviewed promised fireworks.
“This is a grand opportunity for us to showcase our talents in front of scores of revellers expected to attend the gala. My new look band will be sampling new songs from my forthcoming album due to be released in June,” said Samaita.
“We would like to thank the organisers of the event for according us a chance to meet our fans on the special occasion of celebrating the country’s independence. We are ready for the gala and we would like to urge our fans to come in their numbers,” said talented bassist and Hungwe Stars front man Simba Muchita.
Ragga Manyika outfit Assegai Crew also promised to put up a top drawer performance.
“We know what our fans expect from us. We will not disappoint,” said drummer and group leader, Silas Makumbe.
