ORGANISERS of the inaugural Beitbridge International Festival of Arts (Bifa) are optimistic that the arts fiesta will be a success after receiving many applications from interested artistes.
The festival set for 24 to 26 October will be held under the theme ‘Big Art, Small Town’.
The organisers said they were impressed by the overwhelming response from artistes which will enable them to select the best acts for the inaugural event.
“Besides the artistes whom we have already invited to be part of this event, we received about 60 applications, enough for the three-day programme.
“Unfortunately we cannot take everyone but we are happy with the response, ” said Nkululeko Nkala, one of the organisers.
He said the challenge was now to bring on board the local businesspeople.
“We are going to host a mini trade fair to run concurrently with the festival. This is meant to enable local companies to market their products,” said Nkala.
The organisers said they had discovered a number of talented artistes in the border town who will be put on the spotlight by participating at the festival.
“We want to encourage creativity in Beitbridge and afford our artistes a chance to mix and mingle with their well established counterparts from around the world. Most of our programming will be biased towards artistes from Beitbridge and Matabeleland South,” said Nkala.
The festival will see artistes in different art genres such as music, spoken word, theatre, fashion and lifestyle sharing the stage.
