The show was an initiative of the Mpopoma-Pelandaba Developmental Association whose intention was to ease the burden of the ailing child’s parents who are having a hard time raising money for his operation in the capital.
The show featured some of the city’s finest in terms of dance and theatre. Groups who performed at the benefit show included Iyasa, New Age, Bembelela Arts Ensemble and Victory Arts.
Speaking in an interview, one of the organisers of the show Khumbulani Maphosa said the initiative was held with the intention of helping out the parents of Gift who were struggling to come up with the money to take him for an operation in Harare.
“The show was about raising funds for young Gift, through art and culture activities. The show was an initiative by the Pelandaba Mpopoma Development Association who took it upon themselves to raise funds for Gift’s parents who otherwise would not be able to afford it,” he said.
Maphosa said this was not to be the only initiative to raise funds through shows, as they will also be considering holding road shows after the evaluation of the effectiveness of the latest initiative.
“We will see what more we can do after we have assessed the impact of this latest show, but this is not the last initiative that we will be holding on behalf of the child,” he said.
Maphosa said the door was still open to other people who might be interested in making contributions to help baby Gift’s parents in getting their child his much needed operation.
“Those whom are interested in helping Gift can do so by contacting me on the number, 0733339033 or the father of the child, Christopher Ndlovu on 0772052062,” he said.
