Hillock Arts Foundation, founded by award-winning painter Raphael Jamu, will on November 13 hold a painting exhibition at the Iran Culture Centre in the capital. Running under the theme, “Zvipo Zviri Muvana” the exhibition will see children across the country exhibiting their different paintings. In an interview, Jamu said the exhibition is for children who are under the age of 16 only. “This painting exhibition is meant for children who are 16 years and below because we want to promote and the nurture Zimbabwean talent starting with young artists,” he said. Jamu also highlighted that the exhibition will see two children from Cape Town, whom they are mentoring as an organization,n taking part.
“We have a number of young artists whom we are mentoring as Hillock Arts Foundation and we are going to have two of them also exhibiting their paintings on this day,” he said. Meanwhile, Jamu last weekend honoured the man who has stood by him since he started painting whilst he was just a child. He did a portrait for his mentor Alex Vanleenhof.
“Alex is not an artist or a painter to be specific but he has a heart for painting so for the past 30 years he has stood by me financially and I feel I owe him big time, this portrait is just a token of appreciation to him,” he said.
Jamu is a creative artist who specialises in stone sculptures, 2D paintings and other disciplines and is well travelled. Together with students from his foundation they have participated in a number of art exhibitions around the globe. Some of these include the International Cultural Exchange in Beijing as well as others in some parts of Asia, Europe, Africa and United Kingdom.
In the competitions, Jamu competed against 50 outstanding artists from Africa, Europe and America and scooped an award after displaying his masterpiece of cultural art.
