The delegation from the Communist Party of China that is in the country for a week-long visit aimed at scouting investment opportunities, yesterday paid a courtesy call on Zanu PF Secretary General Dr Obert Mpofu at the ruling party’s headquarters in Harare.
The delegation is being led by Mr Tang Dengjie, the Secretary of the CPC’s Shanxi provincial committee.
Speaking to the media, Dr Mpofu said the Chinese delegation would visit Matabeleland North for possible opportunities in coal production and electricity generation.
“As you are aware, Zimbabwe is one of the major coal producers in the region. They are also looking for cooperation in areas of education, mining, tourism, and infrastructure development. They have identified Matabeleland North province as their area of interest,” Dr Mpofu said.
The delegation’s call follows a visit by Minister of State for Matabeleland North Richard Moyo to Shanxi province, where he led negotiations for a twinning arrangement in a number of areas.
On Tuesday, the delegation visited Herbert Chitepo School of Ideology, which was constructed by a Chinese contractor.
Dr Mpofu said China would continue to add new dimensions to its comprehensive strategic partnership and cooperation to help Zimbabwe achieve its targets under the National Development Strategy 1 and Vision 2030, The NDS 1 is the first of two five-year national development plans towards Zimbabwe’s Vision 2030, of an empowered upper middle-income society.
