ZIMBABWE’S hurdles queen Ashley Miller Kamangirira just dropped a masterclass in the Dominican Republic.
The national record holder tore up the track at the Félix Sánchez Classic, capturing the women’s 400m hurdles title in a blistering 54.19 seconds to lead an impressive African podium showing. Her commanding victory at the World Athletics Continental Tour Silver meeting did more than just secure gold — it completely shattered the previous meet record.
Miller Kamangirira (28) left a world-class field in her wake. United States-based Miller Kamangirira dominated the race from the start as Africa claimed two podium spots in the event.
The event marked another strong international milestone for the Zimbabwean hurdler. Jamaica’s Saniqe Walker took second at 54.45 seconds, while Côte d’Ivoire’s Dinedye Denis rounded out the podium in 54.78 seconds. The 2026 Félix Sánchez Classic took place on Saturday at the Pista de Atletismo Félix Sánchez in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.
Miller Kamangirira is putting together a phenomenal 2026 season.
She already owns the Zimbabwean national record with a lifetime best of 54.08 seconds set earlier this year.
With her eyes firmly locked on the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games, this latest triumph cements her status as one of Africa’s most dangerous rising stars on the global circuit.
She won a bronze medal at the 2023 African Games in the 100 metres hurdles. She is the Zimbabwean national record holder over 400 metres hurdles.
Miller Kamangirira was born in Moscow, Idaho, United States.
Her father, Felix Kamangirira, is a former Zimbabwean national team sprinter, who ran over 200 metres and 400 metres during the 1990s.
Her American mother, Jan Miller, also participated in athletics at the University of Idaho, where her parents met.
Miller Kamangirira earned a full scholarship to the University of Texas before later transferring to graduate in Interdisciplinary Studies from Florida State University. She later worked as a strategy analyst for Deloitte. —Agencies/Zimpapers Sports Hub
