Poland-based Zimbabwean Afro-fusion singer Ashta Eez has announced that she is stepping away from the music industry, citing frustration with the challenges of navigating the business side of music despite years of investment and hard work.
The artiste, born Natasha Tinashe Angela Zembe, made the revelation in an exclusive interview, clarifying that her decision is not linked to motherhood, as some fans had speculated, but rather to her experiences within the industry.
“I’m quitting the music business industry. I will continue to dance though. It’s not motherhood, it’s the industry,” she said.
Although her announcement initially appeared to signal a complete exit from music, Ashta Eez indicated that she still intends to create music for her supporters, albeit outside the traditional structures of the industry.
“One needs connections and I don’t have them, so I’ll just make music for entertaining my true fans or whoever would like to listen to my music. Mostly, I will just do it because I love doing it,” she said.
The singer said she had become disillusioned after encountering numerous individuals who promised to help advance her career but failed to deliver.
“I’m so done. I met many people that side that said they could help and (name withheld) was the last one who said he could help. I’m accepting that it’s not my road probably.”
She also revealed that pursuing her music career had come at a significant financial cost.
“Plus, I lost a lot of money, so I’m now going to focus on other things, or maybe have a break for now and see later,” she said.
Despite her decision to step back, Ashta Eez hinted that she may continue making music independently in the future.
“I will become an indie artiste but for now I don’t have the interest anymore right now,” she said.
Born in Bulawayo and raised partly in Harare, Ashta Eez later lived in Botswana and South Africa before settling in Poland. Her multicultural experiences helped shape her Afro-fusion sound and artistic identity. She entered the music industry in 2018 and has since released a catalogue of music that includes the 2020 album Diverse and singles such as Ndii-li, One, Andizi featuring DJ Chillaz, Ayeye featuring Allanah, Asambeni, Loku, Yoh and Mjolo.
Her visual catalogue includes music videos for Loku, Ayeye, Asambeni, XheXhe with John Cole, Jive in the Ghetto, Kure Kure and That Money.
More recently, she gained attention through her collaboration with South African rapper Big Xhosa on the single Pitori.
