Asiagate, Centralgate suspects to wait a bit longer for fate

Justice Ebrahim and Kenny Sigoba have been interviewing those from the Southern Region at the Bulawayo Zifa offices this week.
Among those known to have given their testimonies are suspended board member Methembe Ndlovu, Mtshumayeli Moyo, Mthulisi Maphosa, Ernest Sibanda and Shabanie Mine coach Luke Masomere.

This is a follow-up exercise to the Ndumiso Gumede committee which last year unearthed that more than 100 players, coaches, journalists and administrators had travelled to Asia in unsanctioned trips where prejudice to Zifa is believed to have been over a million dollars.
Justice Ebrahim and his committee are expected to view the cases individually and recommend the sentences to Zifa to implement.
With the league season kicking off this weekend, some clubs are worried that they could lose as many as a dozen players if stringent measures are adopted. It is feared that some clubs could be crippled and Zifa forced to open the window for more transfers.

Justice Ebrahim and Sigoba could not be reached for comment last night as Zifa officials in Bulawayo refused to shed light on the two’s visit.
A source close to the proceedings said the committee was still a long way from accomplishing its mission.
“It has not been easy for these guys. They started late and of those who travelled to Asia not all of them are co-operative,” said the source.

The Asiagate scandal which began in 2007 with a trip to Malaysia, has already claimed the scalp of several Zifa employees chief among them former chief executive officer Henrietta Rushwaya, programmes officer Jonathan Musavengana, the chief executive’s personal assistants Magret Rushwaya and Harriet Samkange.
The then board member responsible for national teams Tendai Madzorera professed ignorance of what was happening at Zifa.

Meanwhile, the Brighton Mudzamiri committee investigating Centralgate and corruption among referees moved to the Midlands on Wednesday. They are said to have been in Bulawayo for some days.

Zifa did not respond to a set of questions sent by Chronicle yesterday afternoon.
