Zanu-PF National House of Assembly candidate for the forthcoming Zaka East by-election Cde Clemence Chiduwa has appealed to Government and its partners to set up more clinics to improve health service delivery in the constituency.
Cde Chiduwa said the establishment of more clinics would reduce the distance travelled by villagers in the area to access primary health care.
Addressing hundreds of people at a campaign rally at Chiredzana Secondary School last week, he lamented the fact that some villagers in Zaka East constituency were walking more than 15km to access the nearest clinic.
He appealed for Government and its partners to mobilise resources and open more health centres so that they are closer to the people.
“It is stipulated in the World Health Organisation (WHO) guidelines that people should not travel for more than five kilometres to get primary healthcare,” he said
“It is also very important for us to electrify existing clinics in addition to fully equipping them for effective service delivery.
“We are appealing to Government and other development partners to chip in and save villagers in need of health service from walking for more than 20km to and from a clinic.”
He suggested that each ward have at least two clinics to improve health delivery in his constituency.
He said villagers hardest hit by shortage of clinics in Zaka East constituency were from Benzi in Ward 26, who were walking up to 15km to Benzi Clinic, which was the nearest health facility.
A by-election will be held in Zaka East on September 21 following the death of Cde Kaston Gumbwanda on June 23.
