Zanu-PF candidate for Dzivaresekwa in next week’s by-elections Cde Omega Hungwe on Thursday donated a mobile clinic, a bed, solar panel and drugs to Rujeko Clinic in the constituency.
Cde Hungwe, who is also Zanu-PF deputy national political commissar, said more furniture, beds and an assortment of other equipment would soon be availed to the clinic.
She said there were plans to demolish the clinic and construct a new one that would cater for Dzivaresekwa’s growing population.
Cde Hungwe said staff at the clinic attend to about 1 000 patients daily.
“I spoke to the Minister of Health and Child Care, Dr David Parirenyatwa, and told him that the clinic was now too small to cater for all residents. We need a larger outlet that will ensure that more people are treated,” said Cde Hungwe.
She said she reached an agreement with Local Government, Public Works and National Housing Minister Ignatius Chombo that would ensure that residents of Dzivaresekwa acquire houses that they are renting from the Harare City Council at affordable prices.
Cde Hungwe said roads near Rujeko Clinic were in a deplorable state and she promised residents that new ones would be constructed.
She urged people in the constituency to come in large numbers to vote in the by-election.
Harare City Council’s Acting Director of Health, Dr Clemence Duri, welcomed the donation and appreciated the relationship that exists between council and the Ministry of Health and Child Care.
“We appreciate that Government came to our aid as we cannot ensure access to health care to the people of Dzivaresekwa alone,” said Dr Duri.
Voters in 16 constituencies across the country head to the polls on June 10 to fill seats left vacant after Mr Didymus Mutasa and nephew Mr Temba Mliswa were expelled from the ruling Zanu-PF party; and, after the MDC-T formation expelled “rebels” who crossed the floor to join the MDC Renewal Team.
