ZANU-PF members who want to contest in the forthcoming harmonised elections have been ordered to stop campaigning since the party has not yet announced the guidelines and application criterion for contesting primary elections. In an interview soon after meeting traditional leaders in Mberengwa, Zanu-PF Midlands Provincial chairman, Engineer Daniel McKenzie Ncube said aspirants must not campaign before the party gives them the green light.

He said such cases were rampant in Mberengwa where some aspiring candidates were now denigrating others to brighten their chances in the primary elections.

He said one of the victims was Mberengwa North Member of Parliament Cde Tafanana Zhou who was accused of misconduct by his rivals.

Eng Ncube said the party’s National Disciplinary Committee cleared Cde Zhou of the alleged misconduct and had since written to the province to recognise him as a full member of the party.

“We were here in Mberengwa together with Dr Joram Gumbo, our Politburo member, who hails from this district,” he said.

“We were preaching the gospel of unity so that we will have a resounding victory in the forthcoming harmonised elections.

“Our main concern was issues of party members denigrating each other. We are urging our party members to put their petty issues aside and pull in one direction.

“We heard that there were party members who are aspiring to represent the party in the harmonised elections who were denigrating sitting MP Cde Zhou. We told them to stop forthwith and wait for the party guidelines on who qualifies to participate in the primary elections. All the aspiring candidates and the sitting MP were united by Cde Gumbo.”

Eng Ncube said the party will soon release the guidelines for the primary elections and the criteria for applying.

Eng Ncube said former Ministers Francis Nhema, Chiratidzo Mabuwa and Fred Moyo, who were accused of fronting G40 machinations, would also be working with the party.
