Information communication technology company, Bethel Communications operating as Astro Mobile has introduced a mobile application called Mobi Store. Astro media consultant Kevin Nyakotyo said the new application would allow artistes, authors and graphic designers to market their work at the same time evading piracy. “The application is a platform that allows musicians to sell their music, authors to sell their books, graphic designers to sell their concepts and software developers to sell the mobile applications,” said Nyakotyo.
“This application will help to save artistes from piracy as the music will not be transferable and will protect the content owner’s rights.”
He said the application would help musicians benefit from music sales, which have become almost non-existent to most of them.
“Astro Mobi Store will help to increase music sales that benefit the artiste, that are almost non-existent at the moment,” said Nyakotyo.
He said Mobi Store will help to protect the works of the artistes and at the same time provide real opportunities for local producers to grow.
“The music sold on the Astro Mobi Store will be encrypted and can only be played via a special media player that comes with the Astro Mobi Store and it will provide real opportunities for local content producers especially musicians who are battling to tackle piracy to grow,” he said.
Astro will charge musicians $25 a year for unlimited song listings and a 30 percent commission on all music sold through Mobi Store.
Nyakotyo said the new application is connected to all major local mobile money services and this will make it easy for users to make payments.
