THE Bulawayo Athletics Board (Bab) in conjunction with the National Athletics Association of Zimbabwe (Naaz) are set to host a Level One coaching and officiating course in Bulawayo.

The course is set to be held at White City Stadium from 1 to 3 February with classes starting at 8am and ending at 4pm.

The entry fee is pegged at US$50 per participant, however, the fee is not inclusive of lunch and can be paid in cash or deposited into the Bab bank account.

Speaking to Zimpapers Sport, Bab Chairperson Watson Madanyika said it will be a great way to start the year as such courses help to develop athletics from grassroots up to national level.

He added that they are expecting a huge turnout for the course with participants expected to be drawn from around the country.

“Equipping aspiring coaches and referees with the necessary knowledge and skill is of paramount importance and is a great way to start the 2024 athletics year. Having qualified coaches and referees is good for the development of our athletes, both the young and the old.

“We are confident we will have a great turnout especially from teachers who work with our future stars. It will be great for them to be equipped with the right skills and knowledge to impart to the upcoming athletes,” said Madanyika.

Bulawayo has been enjoying hosting athletics courses and the latest was last month when Naaz organised an international coach to come and conduct an international Level Two throws seminar.

Meanwhile, Bab will have its first track and field event for the year on February 3 at White City Stadium.

Athletes will compete in 100m, 200m, 400m, 1500m, 3000m, 100m hurdles, 110m hurdles, 400m hurdles, 4×100m, triple jump, long jump, high jump, shot put, discus, hammer and javelin.

Before the event Bab will have played host to two cross-country championship events at Nketa Drive Park in Mpopoma on January 13 and 21. —@innocentskizoe
