ATTORNEY-GENERAL Mrs Virginia Mabiza has thrown down the gauntlet to officers in her office to conceive strategies of dealing with the new reality of the recently-passed Constitutional Amendment Act Number 3 (CAA3).

The new landmark Act is now part of the country’s Constitution after President Mnangagwa early this month assented to the Constitutional Amendment Bill Number 3(CAB 3).

Its enactment effected far reaching changes in the country’s governance architecture as it among other things extended the Presidential cycle from 5 to 7 years while also eliminating direct voting for a President during elections.

Officially opening the Attorney General’s 2026 Midterm Strategic Planning Workshop at Clever’s Resort on the shores of Lake Mutirikwi, Mrs Mabiza challenged her officers to fully understand the provisions of the new law.

She said it was pleasing to note that her office had diligently delivered on the task given to it by the Government to draft CAB 3 before the Bill underwent various processes and stages as dictated by law before being passed in both the National Assembly and the Senate.

The signing of the Bill into law by the President showed that the work done by the AG’s office was not in vain.

According to Mrs Mabiza, staff in the AG’s office were supposed to be alive to the new imperatives and realities that needed attention despite a clear dearth of resources.

“Our resources are never sufficient, but we have to come up with a strategic plan,” said Mrs Mabiza.

“We have to come up with a strategy and plan on how to deal with the new law -Constitutional Amendment Act Number 3.”

The Attorney General also urged staff in her office to rise to the occasion and prepare to deal with the legal needs of Zimbabweans who are returning home from South Africa in the wake of the immigration crisis in that country.
