August polls: Midlands agriculture show brought forward

ORGANISERS of the annual Midlands Agriculture Show, which is usually held in August, have moved it

forward to next month so that it does not clash with the harmonised elections.

President Emmerson Mnangagwa last week proclaimed August 23 as the date for holding Presidential, Parliamentary and local government elections, prompting the Midlands Show Society, which had initially selected August 17 to 20, to change the dates to between July 20 and 23.

The show, to be headlined by award-winning Zimdancehall artist Freeman, born Emegy Slyvester Chizanga and popularly known as HKD Boss, will be held under the theme: “Collaborative, integrative solutions for economic development.”

Show Society chairperson Augustine Mr Mupakurirwa said the latest dates had been chosen in consultation with the local political leadership. He said the program will include the traditional business day and adjudication of stands, the exhibitors reception and business conference.

“The business conference, which will have the same theme as the show, will have reputable speakers from universities, government departments, mines, and industry among others,” he said.

Mr Mupakurirwa said they had settled for Freeman to cater for the younger generation which makes up the larger number of show goers. He said the marketing team had been to the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair to lure more exhibitors who average 150 every year.

Show Society marketing officer, Mr Lloyd Mudoni said this year the show is about bringing business people and companies together.
