CLASSES sitting 2026 examinations will undertake vacation school during the August holiday, with Government announcing a 10-day programme running from August 8 to August 20 that will only break during the Heroes Day and Defence Forces national public holidays.
Director of communication and advocacy in the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education Mr Taungana Ndoro said only Grade Seven, Form Four and Upper Six candidates sitting national final examinations are eligible.
“The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education has approved the August vacation school and it will run from August 8 to August 20. It takes into consideration the Heroes Day and Defence and Forces Day during which no lessons must be conducted,” said Mr Ndoro.
Each learner, he added, shall be charged a fee per subject as administrative costs.
“A fee per learning area – US$2 for Grade Seven, US$3 for Form Four and US$5 – is going to be charged, just to cover the administrative costs. Boarding schools are allowed to levy an additional US$5 a day per learner for their upkeep costs. This is to ensure that schools are able to run and provide quality education for the vacation school during that period. Of this money, 50 percent will go towards teacher appreciation,” he said.
Mr Ndoro said the vacation school is designed to help maintain the high standards and results in the November final public examinations.
He added that disciplinary action shall be taken against those learning institutions that violate the stipulate period.
