Author pens escape route from poverty

There is no reason why people should sit and cry about poverty when they are not doing anything to change the situation.

The book’s hard copies are set to be availed to the public on Wednesday with digital copies already available on Amazon for pre-orders.

The author who is based in South Africa, said growing up as a village boy in Zimbabwe and walking several kilometres to school, pushed him to want to dedicate his life to fighting poverty. He decided to do this through writing.

“Freedom from Poverty: A Guiding Principle to Understanding & Fighting Poverty is a work that serves as a beacon of hope, igniting conversations about social equality and advocating for a brighter future for the marginalised. It explores the relationship between poverty, greed, entrepreneurship and faith in God. It highlights how poverty often stems from greed and unfair systems, perpetuating a cycle that is difficult to break.

“The book encourages individuals living in poverty to consider starting their own businesses. It showcases the power of entrepreneurship where individuals work together and share profits, empowering marginalised communities,” Mpofu said.

He said the book ultimately seeks to inspire readers to find hope and strength in their relationship with God as they embark on a journey towards economic empowerment

Through his writing, Mpofu guides readers to understand the plight of others, to embrace compassion, and take decisive steps towards creating an inclusive and prosperous society with God at the centre of it all.

Mpofu said the objective of the book is to have an honest conversation about poverty and to be intentional or deliberate about fighting it.

“At the end of the book, I provided a link for every reader to join a Facebook group that I created so that we can start sharing ideas on how to face this monster called poverty. I don’t have all the solutions for everyone, but I believe if like-minded people gather every day to share ideas, a lot can be done to rescue our less-privileged communities.

“The big picture is to create a community or communities, be it virtual or physical, of people who want to fight poverty with the community at heart.”

Mpofu whose journey as an author began after studying media where he honed his craft in storytelling and communication, blends the worlds of literature, media and business to create narratives that inspires people to fight poverty.

Driven by his love for Christ and an interest in business, he is at the forefront of a ground-breaking project, an online marketplace called Afrovev, designed to support sellers in marginalised communities through technology. — @TashaMutsiba
