TEACHERS are angry with their union leaders whom they accuse of abusing subscription fees. There are three major teachers’ unions in Zimbabwe that raise US$640 000 monthly from subscription fees.
Zimbabwe Teachers’ Association collects U$440 000 per month, while the Teachers Union of Zimbabwe and Progressive Teachers Union of Zimbabwe pocket US$80 000 and US$120 000 respectively.
When teachers’ salaries were increased by 50 percent recently, their monthly subscriptions went up by between 60 and 100 per-cent.
Each Zimta member pays US$10 per month, while TUZ – which has close to 10 000 members – collects US$8
Agricultural sector eyes growth: President

AGRICULTURAL production is set to contribute 19,3 percent to the Gross Domestic Product due to better preparedness from both Government and co-operating developing partners, President Mugabe has said.
Officially opening the 101st Edition of the Harare Agricultural Show yesterday, the President attributed the growth to better preparedness in the previous summer season from both Government and its partners.
“Indeed, agriculture is a major contributor to the Gross Domestic Product as shown by the fact that the years 2009 and 2010 the sector contributed 14,9 percent and 19,1 percent respectively to GDP,” he said.
8 panners trapped to death

EIGHT gold panners were trapped to death in a mining tunnel at Rosecommon Estate in Chimanimani on Wednesday night.
Police in Manicaland confirmed the incident and have released names of four of the panners.
Among them were Isaac Chinyai (33) of Dzingire Village, under Chief Muusha in Chimanimani, Chenjerai Kanda (29) of Ndiadzwa Village under Chief Mutema in Chipinge, Open Hlerami (32) of Dzingire Village, under Chief Muusha in Chimanimani and Edmore Ndomoya (32) of Seka Village under Chief Mutema, Chipinge.
Manicaland provincial police spokesman Inspector Leonard Chabata said the eight were among 11 panners who had invaded the gold-rich area.
