THE withdrawal of a High Court case to nullify the decisions of a recent Hwange Colliery Company general meeting does not make that meeting lawful, says chairman Mr Tendai Savanhu.
The meeting saw Mr Savanhu fired, but he maintains the notice issued by company secretary Mr Thembelani Ncube calling for an AGM was improperly constituted and of no force.
It is understood that the newly-elected board will meet soon to elect its chairman.

Zesa to give free energy-savers

ZESA Holdings is expected to distribute about 5,5 million energy-saver bulbs countrywide before the end of the year. The use of energy saver bulbs will result in the power utility saving about 200 megawatts, enough to cater for half of Harare or the whole of Bulawayo or at least four small towns like Gweru, Kwekwe, Masvingo and Mutare.
Zesa Holdings generates about 1 300 megawatts against a national demand of 2 200 megawatts.
Zesa spokesperson Mr Fullard Gwasira confirmed the development and said the process of identifying suppliers was already underway.
He said energy-saver bulbs worth US$12 million would be swapped with the incandescent bulbs that would be destroyed.
Council gets US$9,5m grant

THE African Development Bank (AfDB) has given Harare City Council a US$9,5 million grant for water and sewer upgrading.
Addressing a special council meeting last Thursday, Mayor Mr Muchadeyi Masunda said the bank had advanced the funds for the upgrading of the Firle and Crowborough Sewer Treatment Plants.
The bank pledged to help with capital projects in 2008 during the devastating cholera period.
The grant will be used to rehabilitate chemical dosing equipment, revamp the water distribution and to install new flow meters.
Part of the grant will go towards the purchase of vehicles and upgrading of sewer equipment at Firle.
