Autoworld, the local-based General Motors South Africa (GMSA) dealer has scooped the top market share award after achieving 14 percent market dominance in Sub-Saharan Africa last year, with the Chevrolet Trailblazer leading the sales.
The award was presented at a ceremony meant to honor the region’s top performing and longest serving dealers at an inaugural annual awards held in Johannesburg, South Africa recently.
Brian Olson, vice president for vehicle sales, service and marketing for GMSA said appreciating good work was necessary for growth.
“The top market share award was presented to Zimbabwe’s Autoworld, who achieved a 14.5 percent market share in 2013, with the Chevrolet Trailblazer leading sales. In 2014, Chevrolet and Isuzu are the most popular brands in Zimbabwe, with September year-to-date market share at 19.5 percent.
“It gives us great pleasure to be able to honor our best dealers from various Sub-Saharan Africa markets, without whom we would not be able to grow our market share and brand presence. Their dedication to creating customers for life deserves the highest recognition,” he said.
“These are important achievements when one considers that we operate in markets where used grey import vehicles form 70 to 90 percent of sales. Many of these vehicles haven’t been engineered or tested for operation in the harsh conditions found on the African continent. This exposes consumers to questionable reliability and costly repairs. Our products are designed to meet market-specific requirements and operate safely in these tough environments.”
Angola’s Vauco scooped the top sales award, with the Chevrolet N300 and Spark being their most popular vehicles.
Various long service awards were also presented to a total of 12 dealers.
“We also appreciate long service. Geant from Gabon, Mike Appel and Gatto from Malawi and Entreposto from Mozambique were awarded for 20 years of service. Alucar from Cape Verde, Arno from the Democratic Republic of Congo, National Motor Corporation from Ethiopia, Edelec from Madagascar, Silcar from Senegal, Eldomotors from Mauritius got awards for 15 years. Vauco from Angola, Cactus Motors from Liberia were awarded for ten years of service,” said Olson.
