DONNYBROOK Park Raceway, the iconic venue of motorsport events in this country, will once again come alive this Saturday when it hosts the first AutoX race meeting of the new season.
AutoX is a fun event where motor vehicles and motorcycles race a lap clockwise and then anti-clockwise on a part dirt, part tar track to fight for the fastest lap time.
Some of the country’s top drivers and bikers are expected to come together for this event, which is hosted by the Sables Karting Club.
Bronwyn Parsell of the Sables Karting Club told Zimpapers Sports Hub yesterday that they are expecting a full house on Saturday.
“As we open the racing season this year, AutoX has its first event scheduled for this Saturday, starting from 11am.
“With the regular vehicle drivers fighting for the best lap times to take that coveted first place, we also have a whole lot more motorcycles scheduled to partake on the day to give us lots of fun, entertainment, and to show us their riding skills.
“Our track is a smooth track that enables both racing cars and your regular road car or motorcycle to have a go at it.
“Come out and put your driving skills to the test or come as a spectator; either way, you are in for lots of fun and excitement,” Parsell said.
“Following up on two successful AutoX sessions organized by the Sables Karting Club last year, we are pleased to announce three exclusive AutoX sessions on February 22, September 14, and November 20, 2025.”
She said combined race days (karting and AutoX) will take place on April 13 and July 6, with rounds 2 and 4 karting in the morning and AutoX in the afternoon.
“Rounds 1, 3, 5, 6, and 7 for karting are scheduled for March 16, June 1, August 3, October 5, and November 16.
“Apart from these great race days, we are also organising a fundraising event on Saturday, May 10, 2025. It promises to be a fun day for the whole family, with fun karting demos, music, braai, etc.
“We very much hope to raise sufficient funds this year to repair the worst parts of our track. Come join us on this journey,” Parsell said.
Fuelled by passionate motoring junkies, AutoX brings alive excitement and thrill in its content. This is where the fun begins.
Saturday’s event will be followed by the first main circuit race meeting — the Ezytrack Race Day — to be held at Donnybrook on March 2.
The ezytrack Race Day attracts most of the country’s top motor racing drivers and bikers.
So, it promises to be another busy period for the local motorsport enthusiasts as we head into the new season.
