Avelgood Apps designs new measurement tools for mobile phone

Harare Bureau
LOCAL mobile phone applications company Avelgood Apps says it has designed a new all-in-one measurement tools application for the Nokia Asha phone, IntelliTools. The application consists of seven tools that include a ruler, spirit level, tape measure/distance meter, protractor, seismograph, plumb line and a flashlight.

Avelgood Apps chief executive Mr Gift Gana said the IntelliTools is available on the Nokia Asha 305, 306, 308, 309, 310, 311, 3050, 3060, 3080, 3090 and 3110.

He said the application gives users the convenience of having measurement tools at hand wherever the need arises to measure something.
“This app makes use of the accelerometer sensors, touch screen and camera in the full touch Nokia Asha phones to transform the device into a measurement tool. IntelliTools is simple to use with all the functionality accessible in one tap from the home screen,” he said.

He said the ruler displayed a graduated scale on the screen that could be used to measure the length although it was limited to the length of the phone’s screen.

Mr Gana noted that for the tape measure tool, the app would display the distance of the object from where the user was based.
“The Seismograph enables the user to measure vibrations. It plots a graph showing the relative intensity of the vibrations in real time,” he said.
With the protractor the app displays an angular scale on the screen where users can read off an angle.

He said the plumb line enables the user to measure the tilt of a wall of other surface from the vertical while the spirit level showed the user whether a surface was horizontal or not.

“Finally IntelliTools includes a flashlight that displays a bright white screen to provide light in the dark. The flashlight included in IntelliTools has been available on Nokia Store as a standalone app, flashlight torch since August 2012,” he said.

He said IntelliTools was designed with both casual DIY work and for the serious handyman in mind.
“Work is underway to make IntelliTools available on the recently released Nokia Asha 501 and add more measurement tools like sound meter,” Mr Gana said.
