MEGAFEST Holdings chief executive officer Dr Tafadzwa Matsika says awards don’t only acknowledge success but recognise many other qualities including ability, struggle, effort and above all excellence.
Dr Matsika in a statement said there were however hundreds of brilliant and even younger business personalities who will never get the grooming and break they need.
He said even when they do; they are foiled at every level by a disrespectful system.
“There are thousands of businesses and their people doing the most amazing work in towns and villages we’ve not heard of. We come to know of them when they win an award,” said Dr Matsika.
He said because some business people would have won awards, more people support them and their businesses.
“Would you have gone out and shopped or supported their businesses if they weren’t credible people? That’s where awards play a crucial role. Not everyone is lucky to get the trophy and the accolades that come with the winning he or she deserves,” said Dr Matsika.
Said Dr Matsika: “When the history of Bulawayo is written, the Megafest Business Awards will be remembered for their genuineness. We may not have made money from them, probably have attracted some negatives from those who don’t understand our vision and this might have caused irretrievably damaged stunts. But the awards endorse Bulawayo as one of the cities in Zimbabwe where the greatest business personalities are made.”
The Megafest chief said every year, some truly remarkable Zimbabweans and Bulawayo business people specifically are awarded, thus encouraged to pursue their excellent work through different awards.
“That’s why we value the Megafest Business Awards. That’s also why it’s important that they’re chosen carefully, transparently and wisely. We can’t allow the institution to be subverted because that wouldn’t only destroy the awards but also undermine the achievements of all those remarkable men and women who have received them over the years,” said Dr Matsika.
