Combustible artistic elements are poised to illuminate Bulawayo as the inaugural “Let Bulawayo Burn Festival” roars to life on Thursday. One of the headlining acts is the reigning Bulawayo Arts Awards (BAA) Outstanding Male Artist of the Year, Calvin Mangena.
The “Ihulumende” hit-maker is set to share the stage with an impressive lineup including Asaph, Holy Ten, Unkat, Master H, and South Africa’s DJ Tira at Queens Sports Club.
Expressing his excitement, Mangena stated, “I am more than ready and have been eagerly waiting for opportunities like these to showcase my skills on stage. Now that I’ve been granted the podium, everyone must come geared up for enjoyment.”
Mangena attributes his musical success to divine intervention, saying, “It’s all God’s work. God gave me the land to work on, and I’ve been diligently cultivating it. All I can say is that putting in the work has brought me to where I am now. Musically, I have collaborations that I will be dropping soon.”
Queens Sports Club will serve as a rehearsal pad for Mangena’s performance of national proportions, as he is slated to join Noluntu J, Tammy Moyo, Bhekiwe, Baba Harare, and Everton Mlalazi for the National Arts Merit Awards at the Zimbabwe International Exhibition Centre (ZIEC) Hall 3 on February 24.
