THE eighth edition of the Bulawayo Arts Awards (BAA) will proceed without a nominees’ dinner, with organisers citing budgetary constraints.
In a statement issued to nominees on Monday night, BAA organising team member Saimon “Mambazo” Phiri said the traditional dinner had been cancelled and replaced with a brief certificate presentation gathering.
“Good evening everyone, sorry for the late update. Please note that there will be no nominees’ dinner this year due to budget constraints. Instead, a short Certificate Presentation ceremony will be announced within the next 48 hours,” said Phiri.
He added that the certificate presentation would be the only public event where nominees can collect their certificates and encouraged all nominees to attend.
Phiri also confirmed that the main awards ceremony will take place on Saturday, December 20, at the Zimbabwe International Exhibition Centre Hall 3 in Bulawayo. The red carpet will open at 6pm, followed by the awards ceremony.
Meanwhile, the organisers expressed gratitude to artistes who have volunteered to perform at the main event.
“Thank you for the many requests to perform. Decisions have been made based on the emails received and some artistes will be contacted soon. Rehearsals for performers began this past weekend,” said Phiri.
He further noted that, as is customary, there will be a special performance for the Song of the Year category, with nominated artistes set to be contacted.
Despite the adjustment to the programme, preparations for the awards ceremony are continuing, with organisers assuring stakeholders of a memorable celebration of Bulawayo’s arts and culture. – Follow on X: @mthabisi_mthire
