Baby dies after slipping from mothers back as parents fight

IN a shocking incident that has left Mberengwa villagers dumbfounded, a four-month-old baby fell to death from her mother’s back during a physical fight between her parents.

Midlands Provincial police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko confirmed the incident.

“Police in Mberengwa confirm a case of murder where a four-month-old baby died after she fell from her mother’s back during a fight between the parents. The incident occurred on October 23 at about 7pm at Domboshava, Mberengwa,” he said.

Insp Mahoko said the now deceased was identified as Mitchelle Zhou.

He said her father Mthandazo Zhou (23) and mother Tawananyasha Zhou, both of Domboshava, Mberengwa allegedly had a misunderstanding which generated into a fight.

“The mother was caring Mitchelle on her back. During the scuffle it is said the baby slipped from the mothers back and fell down and died instantly,” said Insp Mahoko.

He said the police were alerted and attended the scene adding that Mthandazo andTawananyasha Zhou are in Police custody assisting with investigations.

“At the time of arrest, they were processing a secret burial of the body at Khumalo Village under Chief Negove, Gomonhenga area in Mberengwa,” he said.

Insp Mahoko called upon members of the public to always maintain peace in their relationships and resolve disputes amicably.
