AN infant fell into an uncovered well and drowned during a church service in Mabvuku on Saturday.

Riyadh Munyaradzi Mavunga’s body was found in the well at Christ Liberation Ministries.

He was just one-year-six-months.

The baby’s mother, Natasha Tebulo, was attending a church service when the baby fell into the well.

Harare provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Luckmore Chakanza, confirmed the tragic incident.

“Police received a sudden death report involving a minor child,” said Insp Chakanza.

“On March 30, and at around 1800 hours, the (mother) was at a church gathering with the now deceased, who was her infant baby boy.

“She realised that the now deceased was missing and started looking for him.

“She went to the nearby residence and asked if they had seen a boy of the now deceased’s description.

“She asked exactly where they had last seen the boy and they pointed to a place near the uncovered well.

“On further inspection, the body of the now deceased was found.

“Congregants took the body of the infant out of the well and took him to Pacific Hospital.”
