Baby drowns in bucket

A ONE-year-old baby drowned in a 20-litre bucket of water after his mother had left him unattended while conducting household chores.

Matabeleland South acting provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Loveness Mangena confirmed the incident which occurred on Tuesday in Spitzkop North Suburb at around 10am.

She said Senzeni Sibanda (26) left her baby Blessing Tshuma alone in the house while she was performing chores outside and she later found him in a 20-litre bucket.

“I can confirm that we recorded a drowning case in Spitzkop North Suburb where a 13-month-old baby drowned in a bucket. 

Senzeni Sibanda left the baby in the house playing alone while she went to perform some chores outside. 

Sibanda later went back into the house after sometime and found her child headlong in a 20-litre bucket of water. 

She retrieved her baby from the bucket and rushed him to Gwanda Provincial Hospital where he was pronounced dead upon arrival,” she said.

Insp Mangena urged parents and guardians to exercise caution on children in order to avoid unnecessary deaths and accidents.
