Train a child in the way that they should grow and they will never depart from it are the words that came from the mouths of the kids who graduated at Baby Steps Nursery school as they celebrated their graduation and prize giving ceremony at their school last week.

The day saw toddlers at the nursery school, amongst them Zoe Mazvita Zvayi the Herald Editor’s daughter, being capped by the guest of Honour Mrs Shumba from Chicken Slice. Mazvita Zvayi showed her intelligence as she was able to name and do all the things that she was expected to do. Some of the kids were awarded prizes for being the most outstanding, most disciplined, and most smartest of them all.

The event was opened by the young toddlers who sang the English national anthem nicely and being led by one of their own young Calton Kajere. The children in order of their classes, Peace, Love, Dynamite, and Joy took turns to display their presentations and what they were taught during the year by their teachers.

“We are here to show you our play of Jesus Christ, so sit back, relax and enjoy as you watch us present,” said a young girl who was leading one of the plays.

The children were taught about patriotism as they could name all the colours on the flag and their meanings. The most interesting thing that caught the parents’ attention was the issue of technology that the children complained of that they said was taking their parents’ attention away from them.

“We need love, care, attention and time with our parents, but technology is destroying all that as parents spend much of their time on phones and computers,” said the kids as they were doing their presentations. They also slammed child abuse which said can destroy their future if not taken care of seriously and with matter of urgency. As they were given turns to present the young children came in turns with some reciting the importance of water and how much they know about the things that they were taught.

During this event parents were encouraged to groom their children well as it would help their teachers to communicate well with them.

To show their intelligence the toddlers recited some of the long verses of the Bible without stammering starting from Genesis 1 vs 1.

The nursery school director said all the children were graduating not because they had finished their course but they had finished a year at Baby Step and as a motivation for them.

Entertainment was provided by the Army Band as well as the kids’ presentations until the programme came to an end.
