THE Harare Derby between champions Dynamos and CAPS United will come as back-to-back fixtures in mid-season in this year’s Premier Soccer League fixture programme.Last year Dynamos played CAPS United during Round 10 of the fixtures but this time, the biggest derby in Zimbabwe will come a little later.
According to provisional fixtures released by the PSL on Sunday, Dynamos are expected to start their defence of the league title with a tricky away fixture against How Mine at Barbourfields in a fortnight.
Dynamos have won the league championship for the past three years in a row but the Glamour Boys have failed to make an impression in the African Champions League where they have failed to reach the mini-league.
At present, the league does not have a sponsor but re-elected PSL chairman Twine Phiri told journalists on Sunday that Delta, through their Castle Lager brand, will be on board by the time the games roar into life.
Before playing in Zimbabwe’s version of the “Old Firm”, Dynamos would have dated Highlanders in the Battle of Zimbabwe during Round 12 in Harare.
Last season the giants met over Round Five. The Bob@90 Super Cup on March 16 at Rufaro will have served as an appetiser for tie between the biggest clubs on the land. CAPS United would have squared off against Bosso in Week Six.
The Green Machine are opening their 2014 account at home against ZPC Kariba.
This season a lot is expected from CAPS United who have boosted their squad by getting highly-rated Ishmael Thindwa from Malawi side Epac.
ZPC Kariba are under former CAPS United assistant coach Saul Chaminuka who said he was happy to face the giants early in the season.
The Kariba side will then play Dynamos in the second game.
“We are opening against my former employers and it should be exciting. There are no emotions attached but we hope to play well. “For me it’s good to play the opening match away because the pressure will be more on the home team than us.
Highlanders meet Chapungu in the opening round at Ascot.
Bosso will meet their nemesis How Mine in Week 14.
Moses Chunga’s project, Chiredzi United, will get their mission underway at Chishamiso against FC Platinum before the Lowveld derby against Triangle.
Joey Antipas is cautious ahead of Chicken Inn’s first game against Harare City in Bulawayo.
