MADAMARA have been expelled from the Bulawayo Amateur Football Association (Bafa) League for their unsolicited correspondence with sponsors of the Townshend and Butcher Trophy.
Madamara wrote a letter to Townshend and Butcher appealing against the Bafa executive’s decision to award their abandoned semi-final tie to Laduma.
“It has come to our attention that Madamara sent an unsolicited letter to our sponsors. This is a very serious breach of protocol. It is our firm conviction that such correspondence was targeted at jeopardising the relationship between Townshend and Butcher and Bafa, whose partnership spans a record 59 continuous years,” said Bafa chairman Chris Mtungwazi.
“Bafa and indeed the football fraternity do not take such misdemeanours lightly as they are designed to bring the game of football into disrepute. Therefore, as Bafa, we have taken a decision to expel Madamara from the league with immediate effect.
“In every association there are protocols to be followed and if Madamara had a problem with our decision, they should have approached us first instead of going behind our back to complain to the sponsors. We felt that they were out to jeopardise our 59-year-old relationship with Townshend and Butcher hence the expulsion.”
Madamara secretary Didymus Maramwidze said they were not happy with the decision to expel them from the league.
“This decision by Bafa to expel us from the league is too harsh. We would understand if we were expelled from taking part in the tournament, but not the league. What happened in the tournament shouldn’t have affected us in the league.
“Right now we feel like this decision was made based more on a personal than professional level,” Maramwidze said.
Madamara will, however, be able to apply for re-admission into the Bafa League next season.
They were third on the league table with 41 points off 21 games.
