The Bulawayo Amateur Football Association (Bafa) conducted a draw for this year’s amateur football tournament at Townshend and Butcher in the city centre.
Unity Village, Laprotonas, Mpilo United, Ngachronicals, Titans, Suburbs, FC Stars, Third Avenue, Safeguard and Golden Stars were the teams that took part in the draw.
This will be the first tournament after the relaxation of Covid-19 restrictions.
Speaking to Chronicle Sport, Bafa stand-in chairman Alan Ncube said he hopes the teams will be well behaved during the tournament.
“We don’t want hooliganism during the time of play and we want teams to be as disciplined as they used to be before,” Ncube said.
Bafa vice chairperson Innocent Tinarwo also emphasised on the issue of discipline stating that they need to make their sponsors proud.
“What is important in the tournament is for us to observe discipline and also make our sponsors proud because this is a game of football and it brings people together,” Tinarwo said.
The vice chairperson also thanked their sponsors Townshend and Butcher for always supporting them.
“We need to appreciate the people around us, that are always with us especially Townshend and Butcher. Before we were even born, they were there and this is the time to really appreciate them and all the other sponsors that are coming in,” said Tinarwo.
“Its not easy, but if we are getting sponsors at our own local level at Bafa its something that we should really acknowledge and appreciate.”
The tournament will be played at Barbourfields Stadium’s outside grounds this weekend.
The 10 teams were drawn as follows:
Third Avenue vs FC Stars
Mpilo United vs Ngachronicals
Safeguard vs Laprotonas
Unity Village vs Titans
Golden Stars vs Suburbs
