BALACLAVA RAPIST GETS LIFE IN SA: Zimbabwean targeted women in Limpopo bushes

Thupeyo Muleya, Beitbridge Bureau

A 3-YEAR-OLD Zimbabwean man has been handed a life sentence in South Africa after being found guilty of multiple rapes across Limpopo province.

Gift Mudau was also slapped with an additional 43 years for charges of rape and forcing adults to witness sexual offences. The court ordered all sentences to run concurrently with his life term.

National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson Mashudu Malabi-Dzhangi said the attacks occurred between April and May 2021.

“The accused targeted women fetching firewood in Vhufuli and Khubvi villages, aged between 23 and 56. Armed with a panga and knife, he covered his face with a balaclava. DNA evidence linked him to the crimes,” she said.

State advocate Nnyambeni Nekhambele told the court Mudau showed no remorse, and one victim was raped more than once. “He also has previous convictions for murder and robbery,” Malabi-Dzhangi added.
