BANKET United on Saturday caused one of the major upsets in the MCM Estates Northern Region Soccer League, beating log leaders Black Rhinos 1-0 at Kuwadzana Stadium in Banket.

Second-placed Harare City, however, failed to take advantage of the shock result as they drew 0-0 with Golden Eagles.

Had Harare City won, they would have cut the points separating them and Black Rhinos to a single point, with 11 matches remaining. Black Rhinos, though, maintained a three-point lead despite the setback.

In other matches, Willard Katsande’s FC Oden edged G&T Mining 1-0, while Highrange and CP Chemicals played to a goalless draw.

Cranborne Bullets lost 1-2 to Black Mambas, and bottom-placed Marere overcame relegation-haunted Batanai 2-1.

The two struggling teams swapped positions, with Batanai dropping back to the bottom spot and Marere moving a step up the ladder.

It was also the first time Marere moved out of last position since the start of the second half of the season.

MWOS U19 and Karoi United also finished goalless, as did Jumbo Giants and Chingwere. Shamva Mine and Ngezi Stars U19 featured in another goalless draw.

Results:

Highrange 0-0 CP Chemicals; Cranborne Bullets 1-2 Black Mambas; Marere 2-1 Batanai; MWOS U19 0-0 Karoi United; Banket United 1-0 Black Rhinos; Jumbo Giants 0-0 Chingwere; Harare City 0-0 Golden Eagles; Shamva Mine 0-0 Ngezi Stars U19.
