A director at Centurion Pub and Grill in Harare has appeared in court facing allegations of defrauding his employer of cash amounting to $13 718 after he falsified stocks.
Christopher Dembetembe (33) appeared before Harare magistrate Mrs Victoria Mashamba facing fraud charges last week.
He was granted $1 000 bail.
As part of his bail conditions, he was ordered to report once every Friday at Avondale Police Station and reside at his given address.
He was also ordered not to interfere with State witnesses and investigations, and was remanded to December 12.
It is the State’s case that on November 9, 2019, Law Chirodzero, who was on duty as the shift manager at Centurion Pub and Grill knocked off duty and handed over various stocks to Dembetembe as contained in the bar stock sheet.
Dembetembe hatched a plan to steal from his employer and falsified the stocks he had received from Chirodzero by reducing figures in the stock sheet.
Allegations are that Dembetembe sold the remainder, leading to pub suffering an actual prejudice of $13 718.
The offence came to light when Chirodzero compared his previous closing stock sheet with the one prepared by Dembetembe.
The case was reported to the police, leading to the arrest of Dembetembe.
