THE Bulawayo Basketball Association (BBA) 2016/17 league will resume tomorrow following a month long mid-season break.
With some teams having started preparations for the second half of the season soon after the Christmas holiday, BBA secretary-general Howard Phangwana said fans should expect more competitive matches.
“I can confirm that our teams will return to action on Friday at Khanyisile Sports Centre. There are some teams that began preparations after the holidays, so I am pretty sure we are in for exciting matches,” said Phangwana.
The league will kick start with Oilers locking horns with Highlanders in the men’s category, while Lakers Seniors will face-off with Nust in the ladies’ category.
Saturday will see a battle of the top two teams in the men’s category when table toppers Southern Mavericks clash against Giants.
Both teams will be hoping to continue with their fine form and to maintain their unbeaten run.
Mavericks top the table with 12 points off six matches, while Giants sit on 10 points from five games.
In the ladies’ league, Lakers Seniors lead with 13 points from seven games followed by Southern Mavericks, who are a point behind from six matches.
Lakers Juniors are third with nine points from six games.
Southern Mavericks men’s coach Joe Mujuru believes the mid-season break did not affect their momentum, as they aim for a fourth consecutive league title.
