FORMER Mighty Warriors star Kudakwashe Basopo is back to her best with solid performances in the opening three weeks of the Zimbabwe Women’s Soccer League.

The Black Mambas Queens forward, who has scored four goals in three games, is jointly second on the top scorers’ charts along with the Black Rhinos pair of Greater Bhande and Felistas Muzongondi, Herentals’ Shyleen Dambamuromo as well as Sharmaine Kapachi of Platinum Royals.

Herentals mainstay Praynance Zvawanda leads the Golden Boot race with seven goals.

Basopo had largely been forgotten since leaving Black Rhinos Queens some seven years ago, but she did start showing some good glimpses in Harare City Queens last season.

And she is playing the game of her life at Black Mambas this season.

She will be expected to lead her team’s attack when they take a short trip to Wagadhugu in Chikurubi to face fellow uniformed forces side Correctional Queens this morning.

Mambas are currently fifth on the table with seven points, two behind their opponents today who have won all of their three opening games.

Boosting the likes of tried and tested cadres like Merjury Nyaumwe, Correctional Queens are proving to be an efficient machine after scoring 12 goals in just three games while their veteran goalkeeper Chido Dzingirai has kept clean sheets in each of those                              games.

Basopo knows the duel will be closely-fought and the team that gives it their all will get the points.

“I am happy with how I have started the season. I want to be back to where I was before. But it takes a lot of hard work and dedication which I am ready to give,” said Basopo.

“I will do everything to help my team achieve their aims. We have won two games out of three and it is good. We drew against Faith Drive Queens last week and we should come good against Correctional.

“It will be a tough game but we are eager to give it our best shot and see how it will go.”

Leaders Black Rhinos have a tough fixture away to Faith Drive Academy at Chisamba Grounds at 3pm with Mutare City hosting Maningi at the same venue at 11pm.

Champions Herentals Queens are at home to Conduit Academy at the National Sports Stadium B-Arena.
