Baya’s play premieres

opened at Theatre in the Park in Harare.
The play premiered on Tuesday evening and was produced by seasoned theatre guru Daves Guzha.

It will run daily until November 5, except for Sundays and Mondays.
It features a star-studded cast including Tinoponda Katsande, Eunice Ratidzo Tava, Evangelista Mwatse and Michael Kudakwashe.
All these are award-winning actors who have made huge strides both in theatre and on screen.

The play is about the story of renowned poet, John Mambo whose bigamous affair with two women costs him a lot in life – his health, personal freedom, fame, all are at stake.
Mambo leaves his wife and family after falling into the clutches of a deceitful woman.
But he realises that the habit of sowing wild oats leads him to nothing but his own downfall when he succumbs to a deadly disease.

His caring first wife visits him at his deathbed but all hell breaks lose when she comes face to face with the other woman.
The audience is kept spellbound as the two women are locked in an emotional battle over control of the ailing husband.

The play is a fusion of poetry, drama and music and is further enhanced by the skills of the actors who meet for the first time in such a production.
Katsande is not new to acting circles having made her debut appearance in the popular television soap Studio 263, where she played the role of Joice Huni.
The Nama award-winning actress then crossed over to theatre featuring in Noel Marerwa play “Hot Water Bottle.”

Tava, on the other hand, is also famous having starred in a number of plays like “Sinners?”, “Checkmate”, “Pregnant with Emotion” and “The Madman and Fools” among others.
She has three Nama awards to her name.

Michael Kudakwashe is a talented stand-up comedian who has appeared in numerous productions in theatre, film and television.
He had the leading role in Blessing Hungwe’s play “Burn Mukwerekwere Burn”.

Evangelista is not new to Theatre In The Park where she has featured in a number of plays.
She started her professional acting career in the television soap, “Small House Saga”.

Cover charge is US$5 for adults and US$4 for students and pensioners.
