BBA league resumes

THRILLS and spills are expected in the City of Kings this afternoon when the Bulawayo Basketball Association (BBA) League action resumes at the Bulawayo Club for the Disabled (BCD).

Six teams will participate in today’s encounter and will hope to improve on their standard of performance and game strategies.

On the men’s side, table toppers Giants lock horns with Nust and will hope to retain their position following a week of inactivity.

Last week Nust hammered City Knights 81-53 and will get to the courts in buoyant mood against a team that is eager to be among the championship contenders early into the season. City Knights will be in action as they will take on Oilers. This will be an interesting match as Oilers have regrouped their team and are more competitive than in their previous season. Last week Oilers ruthlessly trumped struggling Lupane 98-12.

On the women’s side Lupane face off Lakers juniors who narrowly won 31-26 against Highlanders and obviously the prematch favourites. An upset cannot be ruled out, however, despite the fact that Lupane have been struggling since their first game of the season.

“This season is going to be more interesting, we’re going to see a lot more competitive matches as the season progresses. Soon there’ll be provincial competitions. We hoping Lupane shapes in and be able to give other teams a good run for their money,” said Opportunity Moyo, the BBA president.

Fixtures

Women: Lupane v Lakers juniors, Nust v Angels, Highlanders v S Mavericks

Men: Highlanders v Lupane, Giants v Nust, City Knights v Oilers
