BULAWAYO City Council, in partnership with Enock Construction and Earth Moving Equipment will on Friday commission 650 fully serviced stands in Mahatshula East suburb to mark the final phase of the project.
The development will go a long way in alleviating the city’s ballooning housing backlog while enhancing sustainable urban development in the region. The city’s housing backlog stands at over 125 000.
Last year, 115 stands were commissioned as part of the project.
Speaking during the commissioning event, city mayor, Councillor David Coltart said the partnership between BCC, Enock Construction and Earth Moving Equipment delivered quality housing solutions to the residents.
“We are always happy when we partner with private developers to commission the stands as they are a testament that the city’s initiative of public-private partnerships in housing development is yielding good results,” he said.
Clr Coltart said the city’s vision was to provide quality housing to its citizens as it strives to contribute to the quality of life of the residents and ensure satisfaction with the place of living.
As part of its quest for housing development and in light of the effects of climate change, the City is exploring new technologies that will increase the level of sustainability in housing projects.
