BULAWAYO City Council has granted its Fire and Ambulance Division permission to set up a City of Bulawayo Emergency Medical Training School, a development that will enhance the expertise of the local authority’s ambulance technicians in emergency response situations.
According to the latest council minutes, the Town Clerk, Mr Christopher Dube, reported that Council had authorised the Fire and Ambulance Division to pursue to finality the request to open an ambulance training school from the Ministry. Pursuant to that, the department officially submitted an application to the Allied Health Practitioners Council of Zimbabwe (AHPCZ) for the registration of a training school for Ambulance Technicians (AT) and Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT) in September this year.
“The Allied Health Practitioners Council of Zimbabwe (AHPCZ) responded through a letter dated 26 September 2025, providing Council with an invoice for payment of accreditation of programmes totalling $3 450,” reads the council minutes.
In its efforts to establish the City of Bulawayo Emergency Medical Training School, the department conducted a thorough review of accreditation requirements set by AHPCZ.
It also prepared and submitted all required documents, including curriculum outlines, staff qualifications, and reports, while ensuring that the physical premises met the minimum standards as inspected and certified by the City of Bulawayo Health Services Department. The official application for accreditation has since been submitted.
“Council has Emergency Medical Training School facilities at Nkulumane Fire Station and these facilities were inspected and approved by the City of Bulawayo Health Services Department. Establishing an Emergency Medical Training School would enhance the expertise of Council’s ambulance technicians in emergency response and also benefit other local authorities that have been receiving fire-related training from Council,” said council.
