GABORONE. — The Botswana Defence Force will host a joint training exercise with their counterparts from the Namibia Defence Force next week, officials announced yesterday.
According to a communiqué from the BDF, the joint training session named “Exercise Tshwaragano” or “work together,” will be carried out in a period of 20 days around the Ghanzi District in western Botswana.
It says the exercise is intended to enhance capabilities in peace support operations and build the ability of the two military forces to work together.
The exercise will bring together 600 troops from the two southern African countries. The communique further said the exercise was part of a regular training procedure required of the Southern Africa Development Community (Sadc) member states.
In recent time, both forces faced a similar challenge with the growing threat of poaching in the region. This has led to their respective governments deploying them to combat the threat posed by poachers, who mostly target ivory. — Xinhua.
